Long gone are the days that you would wait for meter readers to read and invoice you. The entry of tokens for electricity unit purchases has revolutionized energy consumption. The tokens for units system is based on a computerized system coupled with M-Pesa transactions to the power provider.
So how do you ensure that your house is not experiencing an artificial blackout in your neighborhood?
Simply make payments via M-Pesa using the following steps.
- Go to your SIM toolkit and access M-Pesa
- Go to Lipa na M-Pesa option and select pay bill
- Enter Kenya Power pay bill number 888880
- Enter your account number in this case (your meter number)
- Input your preferred amount
- You will get an SMS confirming the transaction from M-Pesa
After a few minutes, KPLC (depends at times there are delays but do not worry) will send a message confirming the transaction.
The message will include transaction number, meter number and token allocated. In addition to this, a breakdown of the various charges and tax regime is also reflected in the message.
Depending on the number of tokens you purchase, the charges differ in terms of M-Pesa fee for offering the service. Mostly a fee of Ksh 22 is charged for purchases between Ksh 100 and Ksh 999.
