NSSF Paybill Number is Frozen – My Alternative

  NSSF

Since the start of September 2023, I kept hitting the wall every time I tried to pay the monthly NSSF amount using the Employer Paybill number — 333300 via M-PESA.

This is the error message I was getting;

“Failed. M-PESA cannot complete this operation. The 333300 – NSSF charge debit party is in the Frozen state which does not support the current service.”

On the NSSF eslip, the Unique Payment Number (UPN) was supposed to expire on Sep 09. So, I needed to act fast.

However, by the time I decided to explore another payment option, it was already on Sep 12.

Since paying via M-PESA was not going through, I opted for cash payment via KCB.

Paying for NSSF via cash looks simple, but since it was my first time, I had a few bumps that I had to handle (this is a story for another day, although I wrote about my experience in a Google Review that I will share soon).

Requirements for Paying NSSF for Employees via Cash in a Bank

  • Have the money in cash
  • Have a printout of the NSSF eslip
  • Visit any of the following banks – KCB, COOP, or NBK.

The next step is just to wait for your turn at the bank’s teller. During your turn, present the printed eslip and the money. The teller will fill in the rest of the details.

After that, you will need to sign the bank payment slip, and you will be done.

A quick spot check on the official X page for NSSF also confirms that, indeed, the 333300 Paybill number is currently out of service.

New NSSF Paybill Number

Based on the update from the X NSSF account, the organization is currently working on a new Paybill number for employers to pay NSSF deductions for their employees.

New Paybill number: 222222.
