  3. Wait for the router to fully reset and power back on.

Reconfigure your router and update your Wi-Fi devices to use the same customized Wi-Fi settings.

Where to put your router

When choosing a prime location for your router, consider the following:

  1. It should be in a central location so that connectivity can be strong on every side of the house.
  2. It should be placed far away from electromagnetic noise sources that have a frequency band of 2400-2500 MHz such as toasters, electric bug zappers, electronic lamps, and computers. There should be a distance of 12 inches between the router and such devices at all times.
  3. In case you live in a multi-story building, positioning the router’s antenna at 45 degrees (diagonally relative to the floor) or 0 degrees (parallel to the floor) will give you a better connection to the internet.
  4. The router should also be placed in areas far from sources of heat in the house. You should also shield it from direct sunlight.
  5. Any router placed near a tinted glass pane will have a drop in its signal strength. This is because tinted glass panes have metallic components in them which in turn affect the signal strength.
  6. Check if your walls are made of non-porous materials. If they are, your wireless connection may have a shorter range or a slower speed.
