How to activate or deactivate call barring on Airtel

Call barring is a feature that enables users to bar or restrict specific or all types of calls. This applies to both incoming and outgoing calls from your mobile phone.

If you activate call barring, you will not be able to call or receive calls depending on your specification; unless you deactivate it. If you have been searching for information about the same, search no more. This guide will show you what you can do to activate and deactivate the call barring service on Airtel.

How to activate call barring on Airtel

There are a number of ways in which you can activate the call barring service on Airtel. Unfortunately, Airtel Kenya does not provide USSD codes to activate the call barring service. But you can do it via phone settings.

Most mobile phones have call barring settings although it could be named differently like call blocking or call filter. There are two ways of activating call barring using your mobile phone.

1. Via the Phone app

Below are the steps to follow.

  • Select the Phone application on your phone to open.
  • Tap on the three vertical dots (or menu) on the top right of the screen.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Select Call
  • Go to More Settings
  • Select Call Barring.

However, the steps may vary from one phone to another. In case the above steps don’t apply to your phone, try the following steps.

  • Call > Additional Settings > Call Barring > Voice call
  • More Settings > Call Barring > Select SIM Card
  • Calling Accounts > Select SIM Card > GSM Call Settings > Call Barring

2. Via the System Settings

Apart from activating the call barring services via the phone app, you can also do it via system settings. Follow the steps below:

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Call
  • Go to Call Barring Settings

However, the steps vary depending on your phone. So, you may try the following steps to activate the call barring service.

  • Call > Operator’s Call Related Settings > Call Barring
  • Call Settings > Additional Settings > Call barring settings

Once you get to the last step you can activate call barring for calls under the following categories:

  • All Outgoing Calls
  • All Outgoing International Calls
  • All Outgoing International Roaming Calls
  • All Incoming Calls
  • All Incoming Roaming Calls

You may be prompted for a password. If so, try entering 0000. This is usually the default password. If it doesn’t work, try 1234. You may contact your network provider for the code in case both of them don’t work.

Deactivating call barring

You can deactivate call barring by following the same procedures above. But, you will have to toggle off in the last step.
